A 1930 Duesenberg J convertible coupe by Hibbard & Darrin of Paris

owned by the "OFF Brothers"- Ron Elenbaas and Bill Johnson of Richland,

Michigan- received top honors at the 15th annual Glenmoor Gathering of

Significant Automobiles. The invitation-only concours was held September

18-20 at historic Glenmoor Country Club near Canton, Ohio.

The Duesenberg, which was originally built for Honore Palmer of Chicago

and Paris, was one of more than 200 motorcars and motorcycles on display

at this year's event. The 2009 highlights included "The Automobiles of

Edsel Ford" featuring cars owned by Mr. Ford, as well as those designed

during his presidency of Ford and Lincoln Motor Companies.

A special display of 10 vintage 1934 Ford hot rods, curated by hot rod and

custom car authority Ken Gross, included the Pierson Brothers coupe and

   the So-Cal Speed Shop coupe.

Grand Marshal was Moray Callum, Executive Director Ford North

Americas Design. A true "car guy," Callum enjoyed visiting with car

exhibitors and attendess throughout the weekend.

The show is a weekend event, capped off by the concours on Sunday. But,

as the event's executive director, David Shcultz pointed out, there's plenty

to enjoy on Sunday- cooking demonstrations, junior judging, unique

automotive displays and, his favorite, "a genuine automotive forensics

expert" who's station in the "Glenmoor Garage."

"Attendance was the largest ever and the show field was simply

outstanding," said Schultz. "Despite a tough economy, the cars and the

   people turned out."

The 2009 event also recognized another special group of cars-the

"Vintage French Front" automobiles which  featured the swooping fronts

popular with many early automobiles such as Renault and Franklin.

Alice Ramsey, who, in 1909, became the first woman to drive an

automobile across the United States, was also recognized at this year's

event. A 1909 Maxwell, restored by Richard Anderson of Washington

State to the exact condition of Alice's, was on display. It was driven

by his daughter, Emily, during a recreation of Alice's exact route

   this past summer.

In addition to several automotive authors, 10 artists had their

automotive artwork on display and for sale throughout the weekend.

The 2009 poster artist was Camilo Pardo, an internationally-known

automotive artist and former automotive designer for Ford Motor

Company, who was responsible for the redesign of Ford's legendary GT-40.

Once again, there was a "behind the scenes" tour of the Crawford Auto-

Aviation Museum's storage and restoration facility in Macedonia, Ohio on

Friday and the always-popular Countryside Tour through northeast

Ohio's Amish country was held Saturday morning.

A variety of events, including cooking demonstrations and the Glenmoor Garage, took place on Sunday. Kids

participated in the Junior Judges program sponsored by Hagerty Classic Insurance and Sugardale Foods sponsored a

coloring contest and coloring book. FedEx Custom Critical auto transport gave away free FedEx transport truck

models to the first 100 kids at the Gathering.

The annual concours benefitted Mercy Medical Center in Canton and Rainbow Babies & Children's Hopsital in

Cleveland. Proceeds from the Gathering will help raise money and awareness to fund patient care programs, research

and education, community outreach and cutting edge technology to enhance the missions of these two hospitals.
