Camilo Pardo

Born in New York, Camilo moved to Michigan at the age of 10. By then he had already developed a fascination with '60's and '70's era sports cars, modern art and design. After graduating in 1985 from Detroit's prestigious design school, Center for Creative Studies, Camilo was immediately hired by Ford Motor Company.

Among his design assignments have been special projects for Ford of Europe (in Italy and Germany) as well as for the Advanced Studios in Dearborn, Michigan. After 15 years at Ford Motor Company, he took on what was for him the ultimate assignment - a state-of-the-art redesign of the classic Ford GT-40 race car. This project led to being appointed design chief of Ford's SVT and Living Legends Design Studio. The redesigned GT became an instant success, capturing the interest of car enthusiasts around the world.

When the day ends at Ford Camilo continues to explore an additional avenue of art and design. With the integration of design principles and the abstractions of fine art, Camilo explores alternative design solutions. This work is created in his studio, located in the City of Detroit. His studio has been the scene of numerous art openings and receptions. For the last 11 years he has been hosting the globally-known event, Designers' Night, which is attended by top automotive personnel and designers from throughout the world attending the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Last year the NAIAS decided to include Designer's Night as a recognized NAIAS event and included it in all NAIAS publications.

Camilo is a serious, multi-faceted artist with incomparable creative energy. His creativity is evident in his large, brightly-colored oil paintings on canvases and murals, including one that was part of Ford's involvement in one of the Extreme Makeovers of New York.

The same quality of creativity reaches a line of striking metallic sculptures, fashion design that he describes as "conceptual fashions." These have been acclaimed in international fashion shows. His fine art and sculptural-functional furniture have been displayed in major cities across the country and in Italy and Japan. As a dedicated artist who sets no limits on his creative endeavors, Camilo has found that his outside artistic expressions only further strengthen and complement his passion for automotive design.

For several years he has served as an art judge at the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance, which also recognized him for Vision and Creativity in Automotive Art. Most recently he has served as a design judge at the Smithsonian Institution in New York.
